Lucy's 1st Birthday Party!

Seventeen months ago - July 11th, 2015 - we stood in our dining room celebrating my 29th birthday, about to cut into a cake that would reveal the gender of our unborn baby. I would have been absolutely thrilled with either but have prayed for a daughter since I was a young girl.... and not too long ago, I found out Daddy was secretly hoping for a girl as well. Today - December 11th, 2016 - we stood in the exact same spot singing "Happy Birthday" to our daughter and celebrating her 1st birthday with our closest friends and family. I teared up at the moment, realizing the culmination of not just a year or even 17 months, but a lifetime of prayers.

My sweet, sweet girl, what a year it has been! We've been on lots of adventures together... some big, some small. You are my favorite travel buddy, my favorite errand-running buddy, and my favorite lounge around the house buddy. But let's be honest, you rarely "lounge," as you are so busy and have so much to explore whether it's the mountains, the beach, or your playroom. I love your laugh, your scrunchy-nose face, your little patch of long hair in the back, and how you point with two fingers. I love your belly laugh, your sweet smile, and the way you run up to me and give me a hug when I walk in the house if I've been gone. When you lay your head on my shoulder it's the best feeling in the world.

I have never known a joy greater than watching you grow. I have no words to describe what a blessing and a joy you are, how much you mean to me, or how special this past year with you has been. I have one more day to soak up my "baby" before you become a "toddler" on Tuesday! We love you so much more than you will ever know, sweet girl!
