Eric & Jamie's Wedding

July 25, 2009

I feel like I should explain my family dynamics for anyone who doesn't personally know us before I write about this wedding, otherwise things could get a little confusing. So, here we go. In the photo below me {far right} and Cindel {middle} are both Eric's {the groom} sisters. However, we're not related to eachother and we're both half sisters to Eric {and my other brother Adam} - Cindel and Eric have the same mom and me and Eric have the same dad. And because I know someone will ask, our dad passed away almost 9 years ago, when I was 14. So no, he was not at the wedding. Clear as mud?

Ok, good. Anyway, on Saturday morning all the bridesmaids got to the church to get ready together. Jamie had us all getting ready in the nursery {hence the wildlife mural on the wall behind us}. Jamie said she had some girls coming to do our hair and make-up.... so we were expecting professionals, but when they showed up they had to still be in high school. And not that high schoolers can't do hair, but it was a disaster. Everyone's hair was falling down 10 minutes after they did it, and one poor girl looked like Princess Leia from Star Wars. By noon we were all freaking out a little bit, and we had pictures at 2:30... we were in a definite time crunch! Cindel was smart and thankfully had a back-up hair appointment, so she called her hair stylist who said she could fix it and do one more girl's hair. We didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings but Cindel and I decided that it was our brother's wedding and it was a special day for us too, and we wanted to look nice and feel comfortable. So we snuck out and got our hair done by the hero of the day - Cindel's hair lady Stephanie!! Needless to say, I didn't really get any pictures of the morning because we were all running around like chickens with our heads cut off!

Cindel and I got to the salon at 1:30 and we had to be back and totally ready by 2:30... so they had 1 hour to do both of our hair, and we didn't even have our make up done yet. It was tight but we barely made it!!! Thankfully nothing ever starts right on time, anyway :)

Then we spent a couple of hours doing all sorts of pictures... groomsmen with the groom, bridesmaids with the groom, family shots, bridesmaids with the bride, groomsmen with the bride, etc etc. Pretty much every possible combination of the wedding party. Jamie and Eric didn't see eachother all morning, but they did see eachother before the wedding. They had about 10 minutes totally alone while Eric got to see Jamie for the first time. They did it this way so we could go ahead and take pictures of them together too, that way the guests didn't have to wait for us as long after the ceremony, and before Jamie messed up her make up from crying :)

Then it was WEDDING TIME!!!! The pictures from the ceremony are courtesy of my Mom... or rather, probably my uncle since most of the pictures my mom took were either blurry or of the back of peoples' heads :)

The good news? I DIDN'T TRIP AND FALL!

Jamie walking down the aisle

My mom has informed me that my uncle did indeed take most of the pictures of the wedding, but that SHE actually took this picture of Jamie walking down the aisle! Good job, mom!

Since my mom had the camera and not me, I don't have any pictures of us throwing flower petals at them or them leaving :(

Then we headed to reception...

bridal party introsme & Brad

me and my cousin Brad... I'm so glad he was there. It was nice to have a familar face in the wedding party from my dad's side of the family and it was also nice to be able to hang out with him a little bit since I usually only see him at Christmas.

I was so happy to meet several people who came up to me that used to be my Dad's friends. My dad was well-known in North Vernon many years ago, so every time I go back there I always get a lot of, "You must be Ron's daughter." Apparently they can see the resemblance or something :) Usually I have no idea who they are, but they know who I am. Before I was born and the first year of my life my dad was the county prosecutor. But then on re-election year he backed out of the election because I was born. If I remember the story correctly, he still won the election. I also hear he did a lot for the community. I wish I was old enough to remember him during those years. Then he moved us to where I live now when I was about a year old to start a law practice with some other lawyers and we've been here ever since.

dad's friend

This nice man was one of my dad's best friends, but of course I don't remember him since we haven't lived there in over 20 years. He was really nice and had told my mom he really wanted to meet me. I also had a few people come up to me that were friends with him and one that used to work for my dad and they all had such nice things to say. It was nice to meet them all, and it was nice to know that my dad hasn't been forgotten and that so many people still had nice things to say so many years later.

Mom & Aunt Kathy

I love my aunt Kathy and I just wanted a picture with her... but apparently my camera is harder to use than I thought. We stood there for about 5 straight minutes while my camera was passed around to about 5 different people who couldn't figure out how to use it... this was the best shot that we got together. Too bad it looks like my head was cut & pasted in... but oh well :)

cake servers

Shannyn & Amanda were lovely cake servers!

The reception went on until about 1:30am. It was nice to see a lot of people I don't normally get to see very often... and we actually pulled it off almost without a hitch!

Eric & me

Congratulations, Eric & Jamie!!!

I can't believe my brother is finally married!!! I wish you many, many years of a happy marriage & life together! :)
