CrossFit #1

Hmmm.....

IMAG0341this picture has nothing to do with this post really, I just hate posts without pictures and I love my Lola so it's a win-win

Well, the CrossFit work out, as posted yesterday, was 5 rounds of the following:
  • Run 800 meters
  • 2 pood Kettlebell swing, 30 reps
  • 30 Pull-ups
I found a modified one for newbies like myself that included 4 rounds of:
  • Run 400-800 meters
  • 1 pood Kettlebell swing, 20 reps
  • 20 assisted/modified pull-ups
So I jotted down the modified work out on my hand and headed to the gym. My gym doesn't have kettlebells for whatever reason so I used dumb bells... Wikipedia told me that a 1 pood kettle bell = about 35 lbs. Hopefully that was accurate?

So after my warm-up I ran 800m (yay I got to run!!!), did 25 dumb bell swings, and then did assisted "pull ups." I did all of that 4 times (except for the last 2 times I only ran 400m just to be safe for the IT band) and then finished out with some core work and foam rolling for the IT band (ughh it hurts so good!)

I did enjoy the work out, but from what I've read on the CrossFit message boards, everyone hated that work out and I didn't really mind it. Maybe I did it wrong? Or maybe I modified it too much? I guess I would have probably hated it more if I had done real pull ups. It was also a little weird for me to be at the gym trying to do my own thing when I have been so used to the structure of group classes. I did get a little bored simply because I was by myself and I'm not used to that. But I am sore today, so I guess that's good.

I am going to give it a week or so before I decide if I love it or hate it though. Today I'm either going to do some strength training (weights class) or the CrossFit work out depending on what time I get off work.

In semi-related news, it's going to be 73 here today (WHAT!!!) and it's taking everything I have not to lace up my running shoes and hit the pavement. I might give it a shot later with a 1-ish mile run just to see how it goes. Please, IT band, be nice to me.
