An Alaskan Adventure: Part 1
AKA Are you sure we're going on an Alaskan cruise?
Alaska totally slayed me. It was incredible. And just about as perfect as a trip could be -- minus the fact that B was not there to experience it with me. But still, given the circumstances, I couldn't have asked for anything better. We had amazing weather, awesome excursions, exquisite scenery, and of course --lots of fun girl chat. And one thing I learned is that four young girls are quite a novelty in Alaska. That 10 to 1 guy to girl ratio thing is no joke. Everywhere we went people thought we were the coolest thing... I guess they are used to seeing rugged lumberjack men and old people :)
So anyway, let's go to Alaska, shall we? But first, Seattle!
Day 1 | September 3, 2011 | Seattle, WA
Our first stop was Seattle! And it didn't disappoint either. Of course, I had yet to see Alaska at this point, but after the couple hours I spent in Seattle I was sold.
They have the most beautiful fresh flowers in their marketplace... huge, beautiful bouquets for 5 or 10 dollars!! (seriously?? here we have teeny tiny half-dead bouquets for 5 or 10 dollars at Wal-Mart. not even fair!!) I could probably move there just for the fresh flowers. And they have the original Starbucks. I would have bought a drink there if the line wasn't out the door.
After a quick lunch, it was time to board the ship! I don't remember what all we did the first night, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't much. I think it went dinner, sunset watching, no parties, bed time.
The scenery that night was already gorgeous and we were barely out of Washington!
Robin, me, Heather, MJ
(AND it was already pretty chilly!)
>>>>>>BED TIME....SLEEP SLEEP GLORIOUS SLEEP.... at like 9pm.. it's okay, we would make up for it later..........<<<<<<
Day 2 | September 4, 2011 | At Sea
Sunday morning we woke up, bundled up, and went out to explore the ship! The majestic Norwegian Star was going to be our home for the next 7 days and since it was massive we decided we should probably figure out where all the important stuff was.... like the 2389473 places for food, the theatres/lounges where shows were, and the soft serve ice cream machine.
Much to our surprise, it was actually quite warmer than anticipated. People even went swimming.
Are you sure we're on an Alaskan cruise? The Star is actually registered in the Bahamas, so we thought maybe it got confused! Really wasn't expecting to go barefoot in Alaska! (although, to be fair, I guess we weren't actually in Alaska........ yet)
Towel Creature of the Day:
The surprise towel creatures Rafael (our awesome "housekeeper") left for us each night were always fun! And they got better as the week went on....
Next stop: Ketchikan, Alaska
