Arizona part 1: The Grand Canyon

Warning: This post contains approximately 118723473795 pictures.

Our Arizona trip can basically be broken down into two parts: the Grand Canyon (which was amazing) and the marathon (which was also amazing and also the reason why we went to Arizona).

Since the Grand Canyon happened first, I will post about it first. Plus, Josh smelled better there ;) just kidding, Josh! :D

So anyway, THE GRAND CANYON.

It was, in a word, well, BIG. It was grand. Majestic. Amazing. Indescribable. Beautiful. Awe-inspiring. And honestly? Even better than I thought it would be!

I mean it's the Grand Canyon! I figured it would be awesome. That's why even though it was almost a 4 hour drive from Phoenix, I thought we should go (although at first I was told it was 2.5-3 hours away....) It's one of those Bucket List items of places to see if you live in America. Plus, four hours is a heck of a lot closer than Indiana and who knows when or if we will ever be back. But I also kind of thought we'd get there, maybe spend an hour or so walking around, get a few good pictures in front of it, and then leave.

Which I guess is kind of what we did.. but we stayed for about 3 hours (the longest we could really manage with an 8-hour roundtrip drive and an impending marathon the next morning).. and could have stayed all day!! It was SO COOL. If we had stayed longer in Arizona I think it would have been awesome to camp there for a night or two! And by camp I mean stay in a cabin ;)

The drive from Phoenix was crazy... we started in 50ish degree weather with mountains and cacti-lined roads...

...which somehow turned into 25-degree weather, snow, and a forest!!

It was beautiful nonetheless.

We also passed a couple exciting locales...

And the famous Route 66!

Finally we made it! And it was our lucky day... entrance was FREE since it was a holiday weekend! Thanks MLK Jr.!

I think I squealed when I first got a glimpse of the Canyon. Seriously... check out this view. Unbelievable. Pictures don't really do it justice.

So, yes. The Grand Canyon? Totally awesome and totally worth the drive and totally would have been worth the $25 entrance fee if we'd had to pay. :)

On the way back to Phoenix (which I feel is spelled wrong... I think it should be PhEOnix..... but they didn't ask me..) I hugged a cactus.

Because I feel like that's what you should do in Arizona. So I did.

-- Visit the Grand Canyon. Checked off the bucket list!!

Thank you, Josh, for going to the Grand Canyon with me!!! :D
