For the past 3 years now I've volunteered at the IRONMAN triathlon in Louisville. For those that don't know it's basically a triathlon on steroids... it's a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, followed by a 26.2 mile run (a full marathon!!)!!! CrAzY. It starts at 7am and ends at midnight. Like I said, CrAzY!!!

This year was no different... we were out there all day last Sunday. Being there is inspiring. It's incredible to see all the different kinds of people that participate.. knowing all the work they've put in for the past year (training for one is literally like having a 2nd full time job).. it's just a really awesome experience. It's amazing to see what you're capable of with hard work and dedication and these athletes truly show that!

And volunteering is even more awesome when you know some of the athletes! This year I knew several people who were crazy enough to attempt (& complete!) it!!! We had gotten in from Mexico the night before around 10pm, but jet lag or not, there was no way we were going to miss Ironman!! We spent the whole entire day cheering for and supporting our friends!

GO Renee, Ryan, Rachel, Nate, Erin, Jay, & Paul!!!!! You guys are incredible!

Some of my favorite race day memories:
Rachel ("The BEAST!") asking "Where am I?!?!" every time she passed us.
Renee... Smiling the WHOLE time!!!!
Poor Erin getting stuck in the penalty box :( But still beating Nate ;)
Ryan.. running for boobs and beer at the finish line!

So obviously, we had to have a par-tay in honor of their accomplishment!!! I don't really need an excuse to have friends over, but this was a good one! :)

Our friend Philip put together a surprise little awards ceremony, which was seriously the funniest thing ever!! All of the "awards" had to do with signs we made for them during the race or other little "inside jokes" from the day. It was hilarious and really thoughtful!!!

Probably the highlight of the night!!!

Seriously though... I'm lucky to be surrounded by these dedicated and inspiring people!! They push me and motivate me to do things I never thought I could do and to always give my all!

After we ate the fun continued well into the night.. we were even able to enjoy being outside a little even though it was supposed to rain all day!!! (Hurricane Isaac is here this weekend...)

And then to end the night, Josh decided to test the leftover buns for staleness by.... well, I'll just let you see for yourself.

"It hit you in the forehead!!!"

And on that note, happy Monday!!
