CrossFit Games

The CrossFit Open is in full swing! As a CrossFitter, you can sign up to "compete" which really just means you can see how you compare to other CrossFitters around the world. If you're good enough you can make it to regionals and from there you can make it to the Games.

I didn't sign up because I didn't feel the need to pay $20 to have someone tell me I suck ;) Well, at least compared to the millions of other people around the world.

However, I am making my own personal strides every day. I finally got my kipping pull-up (un-assisted pull up) back in January (hey, that takes care of #1 on my list!!!) and last weekend I finally made some progress on the rope!
Prior to this day, I could hold myself on the rope, but I didn't know how to move. I couldn't go up. Last weekend I finally learned how to go up! I can't go all the way up though, because I don't know how to get down. One day... ;)

And just for the sake of remembering, here's my scores for the Open so far:

Week 1- 13.1
17 min AMRAP of:
30 Burpees
45 pound Snatch, 30 reps
20 Burpees
75 pound Snatch, 30 reps
20 Burpees
100 pound Snatch, 30 reps
10 burpees
120 pound Snatch, as many reps as possible

I made it through 119 reps... I couldn't snatch 75#, but I got up to 65# which I was happy with, considering before that day I had only ever snatched 35#. I think I could do 75 if I could figure out how to get under it. Note to self.

Week 2- 13.2
10 min AMRAP of:
75 pound Shoulder to overhead, 5 reps
75 pound Deadlift, 10 reps
15 Box jumps, 20" box

This one was tricky... it looked fairly easy (read: doable) but was actually pretty killer. I thought it might be easy because 75# for deadlifts is NOTHING! But the shoulder to overhead part was KILLER! For box jumps, step-ups were allowed which is what I did the whole time to try to pace myself. It seemed that people doing step ups actually ended up being faster than people doing jumps. I ended up with 6 rounds even (180 reps), but I Rx'd it so I was pretty happy :)

Week 3- 13.3
12 min AMRAP of:
150 wall balls (14# for girls)
90 double unders
30 muscle ups

I almost didn't do this one because I hadn't worked out all week, so when I went to the gym yesterday I really wanted to do Thursday's workout instead which was a chipper of 100-90-80-70-60, etc of different movements with a 35 min time cap. I thought this would give me a better workout than 12 minutes of wall balls (let's be honest, I knew I wouldn't get through 150 wall balls in 12 minutes and even if I did, I can't do double unders and let's just forget about muscle ups). But Case convinced me to do the Open WOD. So I did. There's a benchmark WOD called "Karen" that's just 150 wall balls for time. I did 102 in the 12 minutes and it took me around 16:40 to finish out the 150. Let's just say that wall balls SUCK :)

So there's a little CrossFit update for ya. Anyone else been doing the Open workouts?!
