A look back at 2013.

I can't believe 2013 is over. Well it's not technically over, there are still 6 hours left. Who am I kidding, of course I couldn't finish this blog post last night. So now it's officially over. I feel like this holiday season... heck, this whole month... has flown by in the blink of an eye. I guess that's what happens as you get older? I remember it taking foreveerrrrrr to get from Thanksgiving to Christmas when I was little, now it seems like it's Thanksgiving then BAM Christmas! And then it's over.

Anyway, it's always fun to have a look back at the year, don't you think? I was less than stellar at blogging this year, and I can't promise it will get any better in the coming year, but I will try. I just don't have the time for it that I used to or that I wish I did. But I'm not giving up because I really do enjoy it and especially enjoy having it to look back on :) So even though all these moments may or may not be documented on this here blog, here are some of our most memorable happenings in 2013 (in no particular order):

We were introduced to the craziness that is GORUCK

In May Josh got his first GORUCK Tough patch, followed by another one in August in Indianapolis and a 3rd in Washington D.C. a few weeks ago (which I have yet to blog about, of course.)

In July I did my first GORUCK event - the Light in Cincinnati. Is a Full in my future for 2014? We shall see...  Before that happens though, we'll be heading to Ft. Bragg, NC in February for Josh to tackle the Heavy. I am already tired just thinking about it, and all I'll be doing is shadowing...

I ran the Derby 1/2 marathon with my brother.

Definitely not my best, but we did it! And it might just be my favorite. And now we have "that time we ran a half marathon with no training and limped across the finish line" to look back on together.. haha!

We celebrated our 4th anniversary in Hawaii!

It was a once in a lifetime trip (although hopefully we'll be back someday!!) that I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to experience with my B! Seeing the world is one of my most favorite things and I love experiencing new places with people I love.

So many new experiences... we got to see seals on the beach, rode in a helicopter, went shark cage diving, saw Pearl Harbor, went on a boat tour of the Na'Pali coast, went to a luau, went to a black sand beach, saw a sea turtle while snorkeling, swam in waterfalls, and so much more... oh it was amazing. Definitely one of my favorite memories of 2013!

I threw a surprise party for my Mom's 50th birthday!!!

It was the first time I'd ever thrown a surprise party and it went off without a hitch!! Such a fun memory!

I went white water rafting for the first time!

This year for our girls' trip we went white water rafting on the Ocoee in Tennessee/Georgia! I can check that off my bucket list!

Lola had surgery :(

Not one of my favorite memories of the year, but so thankful for wonderful doctors who took great care of her and grateful to still have my Lola Bear here with us!

I found out I'm going to be an aunt!!!

I haven't announced this on the blog yet either (but if you follow me on instagram you've seen it!) because they just now started publicly sharing, but my brother Adam & his wife Jenn are expecting their first baby in June... which will officially make me an AUNT! (although I totally already claim Josh's nieces and nephews as my own too!) I received a package in the mail back in October with the above shirt inside. I wasn't expecting any packages, so I was a little confused and then when I opened it I had no idea who it was from! Of course, Adam and Jenn were kind of my first guess since Eric isn't married and both of Josh's sisters already have kids and have never announced any pregnancies in any similar ways. Plus, the package was addressed to me and not Josh. There was a letter enclosed but it took me a minute to find it because it was at the bottom of the packing slip/order confirmation/whatever you call it sheet. But once I found it I ran around the house going crazy and of course called Adam and Jenn!

Anyway, I'm beyond excited for them if you couldn't tell!!!

We became foster parents!

We had the best experience becoming doggy foster parents! We got Jill into her new home in less than 3 weeks... I was expecting to have her 3 months or even longer. We are now approved foster parents for a Boston Terrier rescue as well, so we may have a new BT in our home soon!?

Thankful that I've been able to get involved and contribute to causes that mean something to me this year and help make a difference in the lives of animals.

We hosted our (now annual?) Halloween Costume Party again.

So fun!!!

My little princess & the frog were just too cute.

I completed my 2nd triathlon.

Including my first open water swim.

We spent a fun month entertaining our Costa Rican friends.

I never blogged about it, but we had a few visitors from Costa Rica in July - Jaison, Kenneth, & Gerardo. Josh hired them at work and they were in the States for training. They didn't stay with us, but we took them out to dinner a lot which was fun (because we got to introduce them to things like the huge feast at Dave's BBQ, seafood pizza at Red Lobster, PF Changs, Olive Garden, etc etc...) and also nice because I didn't have to cook a lot while they were here! ;) They're such good guys and were fun to have around! I was sad when they left! I've already decided the next time Josh goes to Costa Rica for work I'm going too so I can see my new friends! :)

We celebrated two good friends' weddings.

Rindi & Adam in Mississippi in March and Heather & Ryan in September.

We took Gage to play with baby tigers for his birthday.

Seriously... coolest thing ever!

We went to D.C. for the first time ever.

Finally visited our nation's capitol. Promise to share our trip soon!

All in all 2013 was good to us. I can't wait to see what 2014 has in store! Some trips are already planned, some goals are already in the making.... I have some pretty high hopes for it! :)

I hope to be better at blogging as well.. but if not, I am gonna do my best to post a photo a day over on instagram.. no theme for it, just a snapshot of the day. We'll see how that goes! Feel free to follow along! @thelynnied :)

Hope 2013 was good to you as well & Happy New Year!!!
